This is just one of my favorite lines pulled from a KOPPS song. If you don’t know KOPPS, you’re probably about to discover your new favorite band. Thought I’d just give you a heads up.

I recently discovered this electro-pop band with the help of Spotify’s Indie Pop playlist. As soon as I heard the opening to their track, “Dumb”, I was hooked. The bass drop just kicked me deeper into my growing obsession.

Looking up this little-known band, I discovered just how talented KOPPS is. They have two recent singles, “Dumb” and “Temperature”, both of which are some of the best electronic pieces I’ve heard, as well as a previously released EP, titled Fuck Jams, that lives up to everything else.

If you don’t know KOPPS solo work, you’d probably know one of their collaborations. Joywave’s “Tongues” was co-created by KOPPS, and features their signature electronic dance vibes. If you like the bass line in Tongues, you’re gonna love KOPPS’ solo work.

Let me stop rambling on now, and get to the point. In order for me to 100% fall in love with an artist, I have to first fall in love with their personalities. It was just a matter of reaching out to the band and having a little conversation to kick me head-over-heels.

I asked KOPPS some questions on what they do, how they do it, and why they do it. The basic questions you’d ask any band. They took my questions, and twisted them apart. Watch KOPPS sass me below (in the best possible way)…

Introduce the members of your band. Where are you from?

We’re from Rochester, NY.

Patricia Patrón on vocals, Kyle O. on keys and guitar, Andy York on drums, Travis Johansen on Bass.

How did KOPPS get their start?

We were out in Africa and started banging on logs and stretching animal skins and then the computer was invented and we just kind of jumped on that opportunity at the last minute.

What does KOPPS stand for?

Keep On Putting Penises Somewhere

How would you describe your sound?

It’s kind of like fresh fruit or baby laughs but with regular sized boots.

What artists and bands inspired you when you were young?

Puff Daddy and P. Diddy

How do you go about writing and creating a song?

We meditate for a minimum of 48 hours and make sure our chakras are balanced and then the song is kinda just there.

Who are some of your favorite artists now?

Joywave, The Gaze, Queeny George, J. Derrick, Puff Daddy and P. Diddy

What was it like working with Joywave on Tongues and how did the process of creating the track go?

It was great having Joywave featured on our track. The song was originally written for President George Bush but Daniel Armbruster filled the part just fine.

What future projects are KOPPS looking at?

We’re currently working on a “Dumb” video as well as an EP release and the Superbowl Half-time Show next year.

What’s the best movie you’ve seen lately?

Holes (Feat. Shia LaBeouf)

What’s your motto?

I’m lovin’ it.

What is your spirit animal?

Little Richard.

Do you have a guilty pleasure song?

“Santa Fe” from the broadway hit musical Newsies (Feat. Shia LaBeouf)

“Perfect Playlist” Pick 5 songs:

Dumb by KOPPS

Thermometer by KOPPS

Mourning Sex (Feat. Joywave) by KOPPS

My Gold by KOPPS

Tongues (Feat. Joywave Feat. Shia LaBeouf) by KOPPS

(Not necessarily in that order)

Yeah, so NOW I’m 100% in love!

You can stream KOPPS’ “Perfect Playlist” (a little get-to-know-you from the band), on Spotify.

(NOTE: “My Gold” has been replaced as “L.A. Lights” in the Spotify playlist.)

Or, if you don’t have Spotify and can’t stand it any longer, stream “Dumb” and “Temperature” from Soundcloud below. It has been medically proven that these songs will cure any disease or illness. All you have to do is click play!

And remember… Keep On Putting Penises Somewhere.

  1. did you actually interview KOPPS cause a lot of these are not real comments of facts. Im a family member to the band…

    1. Hi Kathy! Yes, believe it or not, this was a real interview, and very refreshing to say the least. I sent an email of questions to the band and they replied with very humorous answers. Their sense of humor is one of my favorite things about them. Eager to see what more they do. Thanks!
